About

I have spent more than 35 years coaching, teaching, leading workshops, and developing programs intended to help people live with greater freedom, responsibility, connection, and purpose.

That was not where I started.

For more than three decades, I worked as a programmer, built software companies, and lived in the practical world of business, systems, employees, clients, risk, and results. At the same time, I was increasingly drawn to questions that software could not answer.

Why do people keep doing what they know does not work?

Why is insight so often insufficient to produce change?

What allows someone to move beyond the stories, protections, and conclusions that have organized their life?

And what actually helps people become more responsible for the life they are creating without turning responsibility into blame?

Those questions gradually became the center of my work.

Over the years, I have coached individuals, taught seminars, led transformational programs, trained instructors, and helped develop communities in which people could discover more of themselves than they were ordinarily able to see. I have worked with thousands of people in the United States and internationally, although the work itself has always remained personal. Change happens one person, one choice, and often one honest moment at a time.

Deliberate Harmony was originally the home of my personal coaching and group programs. I no longer accept individual coaching clients through this site, but Deliberate Harmony remains my LLC and one home for my writing, teaching, and whatever else I may feel moved to contribute.

A significant part of my ongoing commitment is Breakthrough Atlanta, a community project I co-own with Mariana Saslafsky. I am woven into that community as a founder, steward, teacher, leader, and participant. Breakthrough is not simply an extension of me or of Deliberate Harmony. It belongs to the community we continue to build together.

I also design and develop transformational curricula, mentor teachers and leaders, and continue exploring how meaningful human change actually occurs. Much of my current work is devoted not merely to helping people have powerful experiences, but to creating structures through which the work can be taught, practiced, carried forward, and made useful in ordinary life.

I am also writing a book, though I have learned not to make too many promises about when a book will be finished.

This site is a place for some of that work to live. Some pieces will be teachings. Some will be more developed essays. Some may simply be ramblings about death, consciousness, responsibility, relationships, leadership, or whatever else has captured my attention.

Not everything here will be for everyone.

That is probably as it should be.
